OUR PHILOSOPHY

At Chalkwood House we strive to create a warm, inspiring and happy environment where our children are encouraged to learn through various activities, with play being the primary tool used.

We concentrate on developing the children emotionally, physically, socially and intellectually with their moral and spiritual development being of great importance.

The children can grow their bodies, minds and souls to their maximum potential. They will be supported where necessary and loved and accepted unconditionally.

We foster respect for themselves, others and the environment through a variety of stimulating activities and strive to nourish them so that they grow into happy, confident and independent individuals who embrace and love life.

In these crucial years of development, the foundation is laid for the child’s future growth and holistic success.

What We Offer

We are a Christian- based Nursery School in Sunningdale which caters for children between the ages of 8 months and five years. Each class has a suitably qualified teacher with first aid training and either one or more assistants. Our classes are small and allow for individual attention. We are open during school holidays at no extra cost and only close for approximately a month at the end of the year.

CURRICULUM
We make use of the Grow Learning Model as well as aspects of the Reggio Emilia philosophy. The Grow Learning Model focuses on achieving CAPS milestones in a fun, educational and integrated way. A variety of equipment and resources are used. The Regio Emilia philosophy is a child-centred approach that respects the potential of all children. They are viewed as active learners in the classroom. We focus on allowing the children to learn through educational, interactive and sensory experiences which helps the children to communicate and learn through play.

MEALS
Our in-house chef prepares healthy free-range meals (no hormones) with vegetables. Fruit is served daily.

A Word From

Our Principal

“A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart.”

When I look at my students I see them as little individuals who have the world of potential. Through experiences, independence and knowledge a child can grow to make the world a better place. It has always been my passion to inspire young minds and help them grow to be their best and true self.

Our Director

“Education is the most powerful tool we can use to change the world”

My belief in this quote and my love of children is the reason I followed my dream and opened Chalkwood House in January 2015. My aim was to provide an enviroment where children are loved unconditionally, and a space that inspires them and ignites a passion for learning, while fostering their emotional wellbeing and growth.

Our Creative Head

“Creativity is piercing the mundane to find the marvellous”

I believe creativity better allows children to understand concepts. By utilizing a creative, experimental method of teaching schools develop thinkers who are able to use their own strengths to explore varied interests. Creativity also fosters mental growth in children by providing opportunities for trying out new ideas and new ways of thinking and problem-solving.

Our staff all have suitable qualifications or training and key staff members do first aid courses externally. Management does ongoing research in order to stay abreast of any new concepts and ideas that may emerge in the preschool education space. We provide ongoing curriculum training sessions which keep our staff up to date and informed in this regard. We also do in-house basic first-aid refresher training every second month.

We have seven beautiful classrooms which are all well-lit and have air-conditioning for those muggy days.

We have a wide variety of educational equipment, toys and resources.

There are approximately 20 children in each class with a teacher and one or more assistants depending on the number of children, and we have used bird names for the various age groups.
